Something that sparks and stimulates me to reflect...We are talking about globalisation and the move towards a modernised world..
The literacy level of the citizens is increasing, in another words, more poeple are educated. But what do I 'see'? More and more people are getting rather disrespectful even though we are supposedly 'thought' to be well educated and civilised in our actions, mannerism etc. You have some people being disrespectful towards their parents, the elderlys/seniors or to others. The way we talk to one another, voice level just rise and resulted in tension. Does rising your voice represents that you are strong, right etc or in fact as a form of defensive action? Does the problem lies in the way we are brought up, our education system or simply just us? It is indeed disheartening to see all these unpleasant things going on.
We really should reflect on this issue...
Eric Hoffer: The capacity for getting along with our neighbor depends to a large extent on the capacity for getting along with ourselves. The self-respecting individual will try to be as tolerant of his neighbor's shortcomings as he is of his own.
